Customer Experience (CX) is undergoing a fundamental structural evolution in 2026. No longer confined to a reactive support silo, CX is emerging as a critical horizontal business strategy. By unifying data streams—such as sentiment analysis, behavioral telemetry, and operational output—enterprises are moving away from surface-level satisfaction tracking toward a comprehensive management model. A survey published by Ping Identity on October 6, 2026, examined consumer attitudes towards AI taking action on their behalf. The study covered 11,000 consumers across 12 countries.
According to the findings, just 5% of respondents were comfortable with AI taking action with their approval, while only 3% were comfortable allowing AI to complete routine transactions without final approval.
The results highlight a challenge for businesses moving beyond AI chatbots towards agents capable of completing tasks. While AI can help customers find information and make decisions, giving it authority to act on their behalf requires a different level of trust.
For customer experience teams, the findings raise an important question: how much autonomy should AI have, and where should customers retain control?
